Vitamin K is ubiquitous to human body which produces it in the gut by bacterial fermentation of ingested foods. However, the most common foods are not a sufficient source for the production of Vitamin K2.
Vitamin K2 is important for the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, two minerals essential for bone health. A recent clinical study (the Rotterdam study) indicated that supplementation with vitamin K2 reduces the risk of Coronary Heart Disease (Ref 1).
There are 2 important forms of Vitamin K2: Menaquinone-4 (MK-4) and Menaquinone-7 (MK-7)
Menaquinone-4 is present mostly in organs and in particular in the liver while Menaquinone-7 can be found throughout the body and in the blood.
The European Commission adopted the upper Tolerable Limit for Vitamin K of 1000 micrograms as set by the IOM (Institute of Medicine) (Ref. 2)
The Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) in Canada is set at 120 micrograms per day.
Konig Laboratorium Super Vitamin K2 helps in the absorption and use of calcium and phosphorus.
